Hello Friends,I am a self taught Flute hobbyist. If you have some spare time you can also explore the world of music. I will guide you with some tips and techniques , so that you can also learn this wonderful instrument. If you are an absolute beginner , I will provide basic ,less complicated theory about Indian Bansuri  so that you can understand the concept easily.I hope this Flute / Bansuri learning journey would be fabulous.

If you are a beginner or just started your flute learning journey, You may have many questions in your mind like :

Why learn flute or bansuri . 

What are the Requirements to learn flute.

Which Flute is best for Beginners.

Is learning Flute or Bansuri is Harder than other musical instruments.
Let's answer them one by one.


1. Why learn Flute or Bansuri:

Flute ( Bansuri ) is a wonderful musical instrument. But why someone should learn it or you can say why we should learn music at all. 

Here is the answer :

Music can boost your social life .

Music is an amazing stress reliever.

It can build confidence.

It will improve your memory and many more. 

Music takes your brain into a meditative state.

There are many other musical instruments which you can learn but Flute is a divine instrument.It is just a hollow bamboo with some holes, but when you blow into it it becomes alive and melodious sound is produced. The flute is relatively small and lightweight, making it easy to carry and play anywhere. Playing the flute can open doors to various social opportunities. You can join bands, orchestras etc. But mastering the flute requires time, effort, and dedication.

Overall, learning the flute offers a range of benefits, both personally and musically. It can bring you happiness , relaxation, mental development, and a deep connection with the world of music. Whether you aspire to become a professional flutist or simply want to enjoy playing as a hobby, the flute can be a beautiful instrument to learn.

2. What are the minimum requirements to learn Flute :

Only 3 things required. Spare Time , Passion and  a Well -Tuned- Flute or Indian Bansuri.

You can easily get some spare time by using your leisure time. Passion is already there because you are reading this post about learning flute or bansuri. Last thing is Flute and you can get it easily from online platforms. I will share links in the coming post. Just little push is required to jump start you musical journey and we will do it together.

3. Which Flute is best for Beginners:

If you are a beginner you should start with C middle Flute. Second best are A - Base and G - Base. Its very easy to produce sound from small flute if compared to bigger one. Its very important to start with well tuned professional flute or bansuri. For practicing Indian Ragas , Base flutes are best like G base or E Base. We will learn more about this in the coming  Posts.I will also share some links to buy flute online.

4. Is learning Flute or Bansuri is Harder than other musical instruments.

The answer is no. All musical instruments have different mechanism and anatomy. All have some merits and demerits. Flute is a wind instrument and hence little more technique is required to produce sound. If you have some passion and spare time you can easily learn this wonderful instrument. As you progress you will learn and develop techniques which are essential to play the instrument. I will guide you through simple lessons. 

Create a regular practice routine to develop your skills consistently. Start with shorter practice sessions and gradually increase the practice time.

  

Object of this Blog : 

Flute is a wind instrument. For a beginner it could be a very difficult task to play. If you are a serious learner you can take help from professionals or Gurus, but its very time consuming process. It may take around 10 years or even long to learn this instrument. Learning classical music is even more tough. For a hobbyist its not possible. If you have some passion about music and flute and want to learn it but have not that much time or resources you can start here with me. The object of this blog is to teach some basics and intermediate tips with easy methods so that you can play this wonderful divine instrument with confidence. After building some confidence we will , If required explore it further and share some intermediate knowledge.  


The purpose of these posts is to provide some basic knowledge about the instrument to an absolute beginner . We are not going to compose any music or ragas. I will make you familiar with bansuri with small very basic lessons that are easy to understand. With the help of small videos you will get clear (to the point) instructions. If you are an intermediate player you may also read and may discover something new. I will share some song tutorials and notations for intermediate players as well. 

What you can expect from these lessons :

After following tips and techniques you would be able to play any song without notations. After finishing these lessons you will get basic knowledge about the Indian flute or bansuri. You will learn producing sound from flute, basic theory of music and its basic scales, flute playing techniques and some ornamentation. In the upcoming posts I will cover important topics like basic music theory, flute buying tips, producing sound,playing notes and songs etc.
